Book It! 10th Grade Reading Adventures

One of the things that makes reading for school less enjoyable is the absence of choice. We pick the books for you and despite the fact that you may have been interested in it in the first place, assignments and requirements ruin the fun. So here is the chance to bring a little joy back in your life.
• Choose a book that interests you.
• Secure it at a store of your choice or library.
• Join the ning.Upload a profile picture.
• Read at your own pace (approximately).
• Submit three blogs responding to each of the blog prompts below.
• Respond to three of your colleagues in a discussion on the blog.
• Make sure to click on the title of the blog prompt you are responding to and then leave a comment when you get to that specific page.
• This assignment is optional and is based on a 60 point scale.
• Complete all of this by January 29, 2011.

First Impressions

In four sentences or so, share your first impressions of the book you
are reading. Consider comparing it to something we have read together
here at MICDS or something that many of us can relate to. You are
helping us understand your book and look for connections.

A Closer Look

Now it is time to look more closely at a passage from your book. This
can be critically or in admiration for something the author has created.
Copy your passage in your response and then give 3-4 sentences
explaining why you chose that passage and your thoughts (good or bad) on
this text.

I really enjoyed reading The Lost Symbol.  I thought the ending was exactly what I expected it to be.  Within the last 150 pages I think some of the three biggest twists I have ever read occurred.  One of my biggest fears in…
